Ricardo da Cruz e Sousa

Ricardo serves as the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at PEERS. Originally from Lisbon, Portugal, he has worked as a registered landscape architect since 2006. Over the past decade, Ricardo has resided and worked in Latin America, specializing in green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and climate adaptation. A fervent advocate for the role of landscape architecture in climate action, Ricardo actively consults for local and international authorities, as well as private companies. His extensive professional background includes positions as an executive director and program and project manager at environmental NGOs in the USA and Latin America. In these roles, he effectively led teams comprising scientists, engineers, and other professionals, secured funding, and facilitated dialogue and partnerships among diverse public and private stakeholders. Beyond his professional pursuits, Ricardo has a PhD in urbanism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and contributes to academia as a professor and researcher, focusing on landscape planning and design, and ecological urbanism. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers on these subjects, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge in these fields. Currently, he also coordinates a Master program in Landscape Design at Isthmus, School of Architecture and Design in Panama City.
