Matt de Boer is a climate change adaptation specialist with nearly two decades of experience in resilience planning, climate risk assessment, and community-led adaptation. Matt is the founder and director of AdapTerra Ltd, and the regional Director for PEERS Oceania.
Matt leads innovative projects across Aotearoa New Zealand, including project and technical leadership on urban flood strategies, community adaptation planning, and strategic guidance for local government. His expertise lies in translating science into action, navigating complex environmental governance and implementation issues, and enabling collaborative, community-focused approaches to climate resilience.
A recognised thought leader, Matt has shaped adaptation practice through contributions across Australia and NZ, including the NZ Climate Change Commission, the Ministry for the Environment, various district and regional councils, and government reviewer for IPCC AR6. He is currently leading a project addressing the impacts of compound flooding and sea level rise for a regionally significant city in NZ.
