PEERS and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) are exploring a practical Africa-facing engagement that begins with listening to practitioners across the continent. The first step is a low-cost regional webinar designed to understand current coastal, island, delta, lakeshore, and urban adaptation realities, and to identify what support would help practitioners move from climate risk information to adaptation action.
The exchange will deliberately avoid a top-down approach or a single-country framing. Instead, it will surface perspectives from African regions and use the discussion to shape future activities on practitioner exchange, training, mapping, policy uptake and resource mobilisation.
PURPOSE AND FOCUS
The webinar will create an initial platform for African practitioners and convenors to share regional perspectives, identify priority needs, and advise on where PEERS, APHRC and African collaborators can add practical value.
- Learn from regional experiences and emerging practice in African coastal, island, lakeshore and delta resilience.
- Identify gaps in climate risk information, high-resolution mapping, decision-support tools and policy uptake.
- Understand barriers to adaptation action, including capacity, coordination, financing, community engagement and institutional mandates.
- Prioritise the training, mapping, convening, and funding support practitioners feel would be most useful.
