Join PEERS for the first session of the Coastal Adaptation Webinar Series.
This webinar will explore Suriname’s pioneering “Building with Nature” approach to coastal adaptation, led by Prof. Sieuwnath Naipal. Drawing on over a decade of research and field implementation, the webinar will examine how low-cost, nature-based solutions such as permeable sediment-trapping units (STUs) are being used to stabilize shorelines, restore mangroves, and enhance resilience along one of the world’s most dynamic and erosion-prone coasts. The discussion will also highlight the challenges posed by sediment dynamics, dredging, and climate variability, offering insights for the application of similar strategies in other low-lying coastal regions.
